My Idols for the next 3 years! Wahaha!
George Elton Mayo (1880 - 1979) Well known for the Hawthorne Effect. The Hawthoren Studies have 5 stages - Namely: (1)Illumination Stage, (2)Relay Assembly Test Room, (3)Interview Stage, (4)Bank Wiring observation Room and (5)Couselling. Among these 5 stages, the 2nd and 4th are more important. From this the Hawthorne experiment, Mayo observed that workers are not motivated by money, as mention in the scientific management theory by Taylor who sees man as a Rational Economic Man only motivated by money. Instead, Mayo views man as a Social Man. Thus he emphaises on the need to focus on the welfare of employees, in order for employers to increase their productivity. --------------------------------------------------
Talcott Parsons (1902 - 1979) He came up with the moving equilibrium model. The theory suggests that changes in one part of the system produce counter actions in the other parts of the system which return it to equilibrium.(even if it is a changed equilibrium).
-------------------------------------------------
Max Weber (1864 - 1920) He is one of the founding fathers of sociology. He believed there were two basic features of advanced capitalism: extensive division of labour and a hierarchical administration. According to Weber, these two features created a new middle-class whose position depended on human capital rather than labour or physical capital. Works by Max Weber: "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism" "An Essay on Bureaucracy"
---------------------------------------------------
Karl Mrax (1818 - 1883) Marx believed that all societies are founder on conflict. and that the basic motor of all social change is economic. He sees society as a construction in 2 major classes. Basically the 'haves' Bourgeoisie (pronouced as Bush/Bua/Z) and the 'have nots' Proletariat. Marx however, in his analysis fails to look at the women in society. This is one of the criticism against Marxism. Also with the emergence of the middle class, his theory of only 2 major class in society doesn't hold.
My Notes: Ok, all these claims might not be 100% accurate as i didn't refer much to my notes and texts. Most of it is from my memory. So my apologies if any information in there is unaccurate. =)
